At one point there was some question as to whether the 136 young women shown in the video were actually the ones abducted from Chibok. However, Spiegel Onlinereported yesterday that 77 of them have been identified by their parents, according to Kasim Shettima, Governor of Borno State in northeastern Nigeria. He arranged to have the video duplicated so that all of the parents concerned will be able to watch it and has said that he is confident that more of the hostages will yet be identified.
The same article mentions that some Muslim dignitaries in Nigeria have condemned the abduction and forced conversion to Islam. Prof. Ishaq Akintola, Director of the Muslim Rights Concern, said ‘That is cowardly, shameful, and ridiculous.’ He noted that in the second sura of the Qur’an it says that ‘there is no compulsion in religion’.
